3. Guided visit to medieval Sighisoara citadel- UNESCO heritage

Placed on a hilltop, Sighisoara (115 km NV Brasov) draws hundreds of thousands of travellers who come here in search of old time customs andmanners. The citadel is part of the UNESCO patrimony.

Main sights:
- Citadel Square - back in the medieval times, every Wednesday an international fair would take place here - traders from Istanbul in Turkey,Vallachia, Moldavia, Transylvania, Hungary, and Austria would come all the way to sell their well-made products. The Pole of Infamy to which the "never-do-wells" were bound also stood here.
- The Stag House - a unique insight in the Transylvanian Renaissaince;
- The Covered Steps - built in wood in 1654 to ease the access of students to the school which is placed at the citadel's highest point;
- The Hill Church - the spiritual center of the Sighisoara community, with a 12th century foundation; winner of the Europa Nostra contest in2004 for the restauration work made in the previous years; the only church in Transylvania with a crypt beneath the altar;
- The Tinsmiths Tower - a curiously-shaped tower that withstood many attacks and provides us with insight on the various stages of weaponuse back in the day;
- Vlad Dracul House - the birthplace of Vlad the Impaler (Dracula), prince of Valacchia;
- The Venetian House - the simple, yet impressive architectural details make this place stand out from the surrounding classic Saxon buildings;
- The Monastery's Church - the only building left from the Dominican Monastery in Sighisoara, the church is mentioned by Pope Bonifacius VIIIback in 1298;
- The Clock Tower - this is the main entrance into the citadel; built initially in the 13th century in a very simple and austere manner for defensive purposes, this place evolved as the city grew in size and commercial importance. Here lies a copy of the City Chronicles by Georgius Krauss. The rustique baroque statuettes that decorate the facades each have a story to tell.
