    Project summary:
    The project research theme follows the worldwide current trend of maximizing the production of clean electricity from renewable energy sources (RES). The goal is to develop solutions for enhancing the dynamic stability of microgrids (MG) with high RES penetration levels. The main technical difficulty tackled by the current project consists in stiffening the MG during transients by the concurrent action of the generators, active loads and energy storage systems. On this line, a major challenge is related to the lack of RES generators controllability in comparison with the conventional ones, aspect leading to a diminution of their response possibility when required to support the MG during the perturbations caused by the generation or consumption. An MG dynamic stabilizer is intended to be developed in order to further improve the stability of such systems. Dedicated control solutions will be provided for each involved unit, as well as at the level of a centralized dispatching system. The study focuses mainly on MG autonomous operation, but the transition to grid will also be under attention from the transitory regimes perspective. The project development is based on an advanced research infrastructure available at the host university, including a laboratory MG platform suitable for the proposed research theme.
